Explore Coeden Fach Community Tree Nursery

Coeden Fach has been based in Clyne Gardens since 2021

Our site was originally part of a walled garden used to grow food for the Vivian estate, and now provides an ideal growing environment for Coeden Fach Tree nursery. We use this beautiful, historic space to grow native trees from seeds collected locally by volunteers. The young trees are then grown on for sale. We also graft fruit trees, favouring Welsh varieties and follow organic principles. We welcome visitors, volunteers and tree sale enquiries. Come and see us on Tuesday and Thursday mornings

Our site has many features indicated by numbers on the map above, and explained below:

1 Polytunnel – Protects seedlings and newly grafted trees

2 Heeling-in trenches – Dormant trees are stored here between November and March awaiting dispatch

3 Ground level nursery beds – These irrigated beds are used for growing a variety of native species trees and hedging, especially taller saplings

4 Wildlife hedgerows – Hedgerows provide important cover, habitats and food for birds and flying insects. We also maintain habitat piles, bird boxes and bat boxes to help support wildlife

5 Apple orchard – Different varieties of apple are used to promote fruit tree knowledge and skills among our volunteers

6 Volunteer shelter and outdoor kitchen – Our cedar shelter has roof mounted solar panels for electricity and rainwater is harvested and stored in water butts

7 Raised beds – Irrigated raised beds provide protection for germinated tree seeds from weeds, rodents and the elements

8 Wildlife pond – A recently created pond provides a breeding ground for amphibians and insects, and with varying depths, the shallow area also provides a bathing spot for birds and a watering hole for hedgehogs.
