On a very wet Saturday, 20th September 2025, we welcomed around 30 hardy visitors to our Community Apple Juicing Day. Despite the endless rain, everyone threw themselves into the experience and enjoyed learning the full process of turning apples into delicious juice.
Our wonderful volunteers guided people through each step – from inspecting and washing the apples to make sure they were clean, to feeding them into the scratter, which chops them into pulp ready for pressing. The children were especially enthusiastic about this part, helping to load the scratter and asking plenty of brilliant questions along the way.
Next came the pressing where apple pulp was packed into the press, and with some teamwork (and lots of muscle power!) the juice began to flow. Having the children join in made the hard work lighter – and more fun.
The wonderful result is delicious apple juice which everyone got to try. It was so good one of the children declared “this is much nicer than what we get from the shops“. Praise indeed. So much juice was produced that visitors were able to take some away with them.
Even the heavy rain couldn’t dampen spirits. While the grown-ups juiced, some of our younger visitors took full advantage of the puddles that had formed on site!
A huge thank you to our fantastic volunteers and everyone who came along. We also appreciate the support of Social Farms and Gardens and Gower National Landscape, and also Cyfoeth Y Coed for generously donating apples for the day.
