Exploring the world of Bats at dusk

On 20th August we had a very successful and well attended walk to look at the bat population near our site in Clyne Gardens. Diana Clark of Koru Ecology Associates and the Glamorgan Bat Club led over 50 people (and several friendly dogs) on a walk from Coeden Fach to the top pond in Clyne Gardens. We were pleased to see so many people at the event and delighted when we were able to see and hear a large number of bats too.

Most of the bats we heard were common pipistrelles (Pipistrellus pipistrellus), with a few soprano pipistrelles (P. pygmaeus) in the mix. Di also gave us a fascinating insight into the habits and behaviour of our second most numerous native order of mammals.

If you would like to know more about these interesting little creatures, more information is available from the Bat Conservation Trust or see the or see the local bat group’s Facebook page.

This event was funded by COAST at City and County of Swansea.
