Nature Discovery Walk: Exploring Flora and Fauna at Coeden Fach

Visitors had a brilliant morning at Coeden Fach site during our Nature Discovery Walk with the very knowledgable local Ecologist Siân Musgrave of Amber Environmental Consultancy.

We were pleased to welcome 17 people for a walk around the nursery to discover and learn about the flora and fauna which thrives on site.

Siân identified many plants and animals, some more familiar than others, explained more about them and their importance and vital connections within our thriving ecosystem. The group bombarded her with questions about what they were seeing and also and also nature within their own gardens.

There was so much chattering and interaction that the group had to be ushered out from the tea-break by Richard, partly due to the delicious welshcakes and flapjacks baked by Tracey.

During the walk we identified 15 different species of animals and 66 plants on site. Siân assured us this is only a small proportion of what we have living at Coeden Fach – it would take many more hours to identify them all.

We had time to explore the new wildlife pond which was recently constructed by volunteers on site, and although the pond is relatively new, our pond dipping produced Dragonfly larvae, Pond skaters and Diving beetles, ensuring there is a positive outlook for the pond as it matures.

We are greatful to Swansea Council COAST award for helping to fund the Nature Discovery Walk.

Below is the list of animals and plants we found on site, in the order in which they were seen along with a number of images taken during the walk.
