We now have a wonderful new wildlife pond with a dipping platform, ledges of graduated depth and liminal zones to encourage insects, birds and small mammals. The pond was initially dug last summer by a group of marvelous volunteers from the DVSA who worked very hard and made a wonderful start. Our own volunteers then continued the work, digging deeper to create the ledges. Once the preperation work was completed a pond liner was laid and a dipping platform constructed.
Turf is being laid among the stones at the edge of the pond to create a friendly, safe environment for amphibians, reptiles and insects to come and go. In addition we will be planting the pond with locally sourced native pond plants which will really see it start to buzz!
As the pond settles and sediment from the construction phase clears, we’ll continue to observe activity to see how nature responds to our new feature. We’re waiting for our first guests to move in.
